1. Employee Safety, Comfort, and Retention

The following statistics tell us that heat-related illnesses are something to take seriously, especially in the manufacturing sector:

  • Each year, on average, there are 67,512 emergency department visits due to heat.
  • It’s estimated that 1,300 deaths per year in the U.S. are due to extreme heat.
  • Even though heat-related illnesses are preventable, approximately 658 people fall victim to overheating.

The good news is you can take measures to prevent this from happening. Keeping water accessible, giving frequent breaks, and regulating the temperature in your facility are things you can do to create a more comfortable, safer environment for your employees, and safety and comfort translate to longer employee retention and better productivity.

2. Temperature Regulation

OSHA recommends employers set thermostats between 68-76 degrees Fahrenheit. This is just a recommendation for now, but some states are beginning to adopt laws regarding workplace temperature standards. The temperature in any large space is naturally uneven, making HVAC systems inefficient to cool or heat an entire facility. Industrial fans can help regulate temperatures in your facility by processes like circulation and destratification.

In the summer, an HVLS fan will circulate air and make it more comfortable by decreasing the effective temperature up to 15 degrees. It’s the ideal supplement to air conditioning because it allows you to raise your thermostat set point as much as 4 degrees with little change in comfort levels.

In the winter, an HVLS fan will mix warmer air at the ceiling with cooler air at the floor to even the temperature throughout the space. This process is known as destratification. An example of this is below:

3. ROI Will Blow You Away!

Industrial Fans by Rite-Hite can positively affect your facility’s temperature all year-round, but they can also have a huge impact on your budget! In most applications, the typical payback period is no more than 2 years.

According to Rite-Hite:

  • Circulating air with HVLS fans can reduce air conditioning costs by as much as 20%.
  • Destratification with HVLS fans can reduce a facility’s energy costs by up to 30%.
  • Just 3 HVLS fans installed in a 65,000-square-foot facility can help save $6,300 on energy costs for one winter heating season and reduce CO2 emissions by more than 39 tons!
