Bo Dietrick
Growing up around Robert Dietrick Company as a third-generation family member, many times in my life I have been asked about who we are and what it is that we do. As I’ve gotten older and the business has evolved, delivering clarity on why customers choose us has become a more important question to answer. Whether you work with us today or if this is the first time you are hearing about us, I would like to introduce you to what we call RDC.
RDC is an industrial solutions provider. We help industrial and commercial facilities work faster, smarter, and safer with less downtime. Our primary customers are manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and transportation hubs, where we assist in material handling. But we also work with schools, sports and entertainment venues, government buildings, parking garages, and more. To bring value to our customers, we focus on the areas of productivity, safety, security, and energy efficiency. This goes for every touchpoint of a material in and out of a facility, except for the fork truck itself.
RDC is a Midwestern business. We operate in parts of Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Kentucky, with operational hubs in the Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and Evansville areas. We will travel as far as 3 hours from our facilities to support the needs of customers in our part of the country. But we can also consult and manage from a distance, so many times our local customers involve us in national or global project management.
At RDC, we believe in quality. We work hard to only represent manufactured products that live up to our standards and receive our stamp of approval. And we are nothing without our people. We recruit, train, and retain talented people who are committed to customer success and project excellence. We call this the pursuit of excellence. As Ed Catmull, founder of Pixar said: “Excellence, quality, and good should be earned words, attributed by others to us, not proclaimed about ourselves.” And, so, it is our endeavor to earn these accolades from the customer and not to boast of ourselves.
As a problem-solving type of business, we can be many things. But there are some things that we are not.
- We are not a manufacturer. We represent a wide variety of manufactured products that we have personally researched, tested, and vetted before putting our stamp of approval on. Our talent is in our experience and our craftsmanship. The products we represent are unique. We pride ourselves as the experts in application, installation, maintenance, and service of material handling solutions.
- We are not a jack-of-all-trades. Our product catalog is robust but contained within the boundaries of our mission and vision. We cannot do everything for everyone. We want to be precise about working with the right customers and only representing solutions and working with products that we are confident in.
- We are not a one-size-fits-all equipment dealer. We bring the most value to customers who have challenges and an open mind for novel solutions. We really shine when we can present options, rather than just fulfill an order.
- We are not the economy choice. We choose to not compromise on quality. Quality takes time and time costs money. They have invested in the relationship, and we are dedicated to their success and rapid customer service.
- We are not a national business. But we do have connections in every geography of the United States to help you get connected with a local resource.
At RDC, we know who we are, and we hope you know us, too. We’ve been here for over 55 years, and we are growing. Does anything you read here sound like a partnership you are interested in? Or does this sound like a place where you would like to share your talents? We are open to taking on new clients and we are hiring new people to help deliver the same great products and services that we’ve become known for.
